Monday February 8th-February 12th
On Monday & Tuesday of this week T.J. and I worked on our project proposal and created power point slides to keep you all up to date as to how we were going to go about this project. We spent Monday afternoon & Tuesday working on this part of it. On Wednesday, we got the chance to meet with Victor Vinluan from the Enterprise Zone to discuss with him our project and ask him to participate on our board of directors for the Leadership Consulting Firm. After our meeting with Victor I sent him the portfolio that was created last semester to give him more details and background information about the project. We also worked on our project life cycle that Jill Morrison had given to us to help us set goals & reach them successfully for our project. Then Thursday we had our weekly meeting with Dr. Millard and we mainly discussed our project life cycles and some of the organizations. We discussed many of the details of the organizations and different steps & goals that we would have to take based on the project life cycle to start getting involved with the organizations. T.J. and I worked on tweaking our project life cycle, after our meeting with Dr. Millard, and we also spent a little bit of time discussing by-laws of a board of directors. Friday T.J. met with Dr. Starcher after his class to talk with him and provide him more information about being on the board for the Consulting Firm, he then called me and updated me on what information he had given Dr. Starcher since I hadn’t been able to make the meeting.
The greatest challenge for me this week for me has been trying to look into planning board meetings, this has been something that we have been talking about for awhile when trying to get our project together. For me, I have never been in charge, so to speak, of setting up a board meeting & figuring out what kinds of things we need to discuss. We want to make sure that we are using our time effectively as we approach the board meeting, but it has been difficult with TJ and I never having any experience in this area. The greatest joy has definitely been seeing the consulting firm growing as we have been recruiting board members weekly-that’s exciting!
A lesson that I really learned this week is how to talk to people about something that they might not have even heard of, like Victor, we basically had to start from scratch and help him understand what our Leadership Consulting Firm was going to be doing and what our plan was. I never really had thought about this until our meetings that we needed to help people see our vision and to really give them as much information as we can about how we will accomplish our goals. I just learned that we need to have a plan of action when we go into meetings with people and show that we know what we are talking about and be open to their advice and questions as well.
Question: Have any of you met with Jill Morrison to obtain a project life cycle template for your project? ( I was just wondering because this has helped me & TJ out a lot in aligning our goals & helping us take the necessary steps to obtain & accomplish our goals) This is just to keep you on target as you go along, if anyone is interested I’m sure Jill would set up a meeting with you!
